Troubleshooting problems with papers- Suggestions below.
Here are some potential causes and ways to repair the problems:
- You may have created your reference citations outside of Academic Writer (in Microsoft Word, for example) and then copied and pasted the references into the body of your paper in Academic Writer. Instead, use the tools in the Academic Writer's Reference section to add your references to your account there, and then add references to your paper from the My References repository using the tool in the Write section. For more information, see https://askpubs.apa.org/s/article/How-do-I-add-references-to-my-paper.
- You may be using browser software that is not supported by Academic Writer. Supported browsers are Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. On the other hand, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge are not supported and can cause many errors.
- You may have copied and pasted text in a way that doesn't work in Academic Writer. If you paste text in Academic Writer that you have copied elsewhere, select "Paste as Plain Text."
- You may have active browser extensions or plugins that conflict with Academic Writer's internal tools. Disable all your browser's extensions and plugins, such as Grammarly, when using Academic Writer. (Turn off extensions.)

If you continue to experience problems, you can create a support ticket at Academic Writer. For the fastest, most accurate service, provide the following information:
- the email address you used to create your Academic Writer account,
- the title of your paper, and
- a note telling whether this paper is the only one where you're experiencing the issue.
If you cannot correct your paper in Academic Writer, export it as a Microsoft Word document and save it to your computer or the cloud. Open the paper in Word and click the pilcrow symbol (¶) in the toolbar. Word displays the pilcrow in your paper wherever you've added spaces or lines by clicking the Enter key. Use the backspace or delete keys to remove the pilcrows.
Alternative method: Copy the references from the Academic Writer software "My References," paste them into Word, and make necessary corrections. Double-check all text that should be in italics. Add hanging indents to the references with more than a single line of text.
